Muka Tangata Council are pleased to welcome two new members. Renee Rooney and Cheyenne Wilson have been appointed by Minister of Education Jan Tinetti. Cheyenne and Renee will join the Council at their next hui in Pōneke Wellington in June.
Chair, Erin Simpson (Taranaki, Te Atiawa) says “I am excited to work with Renee and Cheyenne and welcome the experience and expertise they will both bring to Muka Tangata in the coming months. Our Council, kaimahi and food and fibre industries will benefit from their knowledge and passion for the sector.”
Cheyenne is the Founder and Managing Director of Te Kaharangi Hono, a specialist Māori Agribusiness and whenua Māori consulting firm, and was recently appointed chair of He Tātai Rangahua, the Food and Fibre Youth Network Council and a trustee for the charity Meat the Need. She is passionate about the development and success of rangatahi and is committed to building the capabilities of tangata whenua.
Renee is co-owner/operator of a dairy farm business in the Lake Brunner catchment, inland from Greymouth. Renee’s governance and leadership experience spans education, community and industry groups and currently includes being Chair of Development West Coast, a charitable trust set up to manage, invest and distribute income from a fund received from the Government to promote sustainable employment opportunities, and generate sustainable economic benefits for the West Coast.
